    Over Compensate Much?

Today I worked at a local fair for the animal hospital.  I was a little worried when I was asked to help man the booth because I've only worked there a couple months and wasn't as familiar with all the clinic has to offer.  I decided I'd do a little homework last night and try to learn as much as a could about where the doctors got their degrees, the type of laser that's used in surgery, what AAHA is, etc, etc.....
The most common question I was asked?

    "Where are you guys located?"

    Luckily, I knew the answer.

An Un-Holy Trinity of Baked Goods

    So Bad for You
    Doesn't it look delicous?
The Girl's birthday is coming up and I'm debating what to do cake-wise.  Last year I got cupcakes from Byerly's (which were freakin' yummy!) but this year I think I'll make her a cake.  I saw this recipe on CakeSpy (featuring pie crust, chocolate chip cookies & cake) and thought I'd try it.  O.M.G!  It is really freakin' good!  I will now share with you how I made this crazy dessert:
•All of my stuff is store bought-no homemade stuff because I was lazy
-I used Pillsbury Ready Pie Crust, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough & Funfetti Cake (in case you cannot tell, I ♥ Pillsbury)
•I followed the layering process as directed with enough cake mix to make 4 cupcakes, but I probably should've made 6.
•It took me about an hour to cook this bad boy at 350° (gas oven, your mileage may vary)
All in all, I think I could've gotten away without the piecrust; I think it was a little much even for me....*collective gasp*
On another note, June 5th was DH's & my 10th anniversary.  Hard to believe that it's been 10 years since we got married, moved to Springfield, got an apartment, got a house, got a couple cars, changed jobs, moved to Minnesota, bought a house, had two kids, changed jobs again, moved to Washington and bought a house.  I guess 10 years really isn't that longSmile  Take care!

    How *NOT* to Prepare Dinner

    I cut my inger.
That's right, I cut the eff out of my finger......okay, it was more funny in my head.  Anyway, I was cutting an onion to put in the slow cooker with the chicken and I got over-zealous. It doesn't hurt so bad, it's just annoying.
What's said is that I'm blogging about a hurt finger and not my knitting.  It's not that I'm not knitting, I've just been slow...and of course the KADD.  I did finish the Blossom Shawl which I'll blog about (hopefully) soon.

    Back "Home"

Last week the wee folk and I made a trek back to Illinois to visit the family.  My brother graduated from the University of Illinois at Springfield on the 16th with a Masters in Public Administration.  It was typical graduation except for one thing....FREAKING FIST BUMPS!!!!!!!!!  Yes, people the hysteria regarding the H1N1 strain of influenza caused the Chancellor to forego the traditional (professional) handshake to give graduates a fist bump/respect knuckles.  It was ridiculous.  If you need photographic proof go the 2009 Commencement page (bottom of the page) or my brother's twitpic.  Yeah....
At least I got a respectable picture:
Since my sanity was barely hanging in the balance after being on the plane with 2 small children, I decided to give the in-laws some quality time with their grandchildren while I was at the graduation.  Naturally they loved it!  I felt kind of bad that my IL's only got a fraction of the time that my family got, but they did get to spend time with all of us in january while my family hadn't seen us since october.  Next time we visit I'll try to make the visit more equal.
Anyway, visiting my family is pretty laid back.  There were a few things that had to be done.  We went to church on sunday (have to show off the grandkids), my brother left on tuesday (to move out to Seattle!!), visit with my grandparents, lunch in Bishop Hill, you get the idea.
That's all I got.  There's more pictures in my january-june album.  Take care!

    La-zy!

Let's see, 29 days without a post.  Man I'm getting lazy!  I mean, I was already lazy but this makes me feel even lazier!  And it isn't even as if I've finished any of my WIP's as of late!  Well, I have been working on Blossom, a shawl from the now defunct Magknits and I am nearly done with it even after adding an extra set of repeats....but still!
    yes, I i$ ©r4zY
What's even more sad (as if anything else could be so tragic) is that there are still boxes to be unpacked.  And yeah, I know a lot of people go years before the unpack EVERY box in their new homes, but I just hate it when I walk into KT's room and see the boxes in her closet.  What I really need to do is just bite the bullet and DO  IT!  Which of course includes getting rid of old toys she no longer plays with, clothes that no longer fit and all the stuff that she just plain doesn't need anymore.  And I know that if I just do a little each day it'll eventually get done, but I feel so overwhelmed when I think about it.  I'm pathetic...what can I say.
In other news....I got a job!  I'm working part-time at a nearby vet clinic as an assistant.  As before I'm only working saturdays, but it'll be nice to get out of the house & give DH a chance to spend some time with the kids (i.e. get a taste for what I do EVERY.SINGLE.DAY).

    Knitters ADD Is Back

    Aye, aye, aye....
I've been sticking to the small projects as of late.  Maybe I'm just burned out because I screwed up the Terra sweater and need to frog it.  But I finished the Ice Age Boots:

    And now Deep Thoughts
And I've reevaluated 2 pairs of socks:
    Mmm, meat!
Crazy, I know.  I had almost gotten to the heel on the "Joker Sock" (one on the left), tried it on & realized it was just a little too tight.  Crap!  So I ripped out the whole thing and started over.  I hate having to knit a pair of socks with 72 stitches, but I really like the way the fabric looks on size 2.25 mm needles and frankly, what's the point of making a pair of fun looking socks if you're not going to wear them.  As for the Soy Sock (on the right), I don't know why I stopped working on it, but I've picked it up again.  I changed my mind on the short-row heel and am working a heel flap instead.  I just really like the way a heel flap fits versus the short-row.  Personally I think each person has their own preference as to what fits best, for me it's a flap:)
That's all I've got for now.  Considering it's been 2 ½ weeks since I last posted, I'd say that's kinda sad.  Oh well, I'm going to get some sleep, have a good one!

    Hmmm?

    I have a dilemma:
As you can see my thrums have become nubbins.  I thought something like this might happen, but I didn't think they would felt so small!  They kind of look like shibori which is cool, but not what I was going for.  So now I need to decide what I'm going to do-should I cut them off or needle felt more fuzzy goodness?  I'm going to put a foam outer sole on it so it's going to be pretty fluffy as it is.  Thoughts anyone?

    The Annoyance Factor is HIGH!!!

I have been without internet for 2 days.....wait let me rephrase that,
    OMG TWO DAYS!!!!!!!!!
Not a big deal, but I'm surprised at how much I depend on the internet for things.  I think one thing that has helped me acclimate here in the PacNW has been the ability to pull up an interactive map...with directions even!  Or I can look up the closest grocery store, Target, coffee shop, etc.  I'm unsure if this is a good thing or a bad thing.  Probably a bad thing.
Anyway, I'm done with the Ice Age Boots, squeeeeee!  I'm felting them in the washer right now, hoping they'll turn out okay.  I guess that means I'm not totally done with them yet.  However I figure it's close enough to say done:)  Now, I'm wondering what my next "big" project will be.  Sure, I've got tons of projects on the needles already but what's one more, right?  I really should just go through the all the crap stuff I have in progress and decide either rip or finish!
I'm off to bed, take care!

    Giant Forehead

Apparently I want to look like Harry Potter:
    ouchie
I know it doesn't look that bad; it actually looked a lot worse a few days before.  I was looking behind KT's bed at our temp house to see if anything was left.  Her bed was right against the wall next to the window & I wasn't paying attention & I whanged my head but good!  I just kind of felt like sharing my klutziness.
In knitting knews I'm nearly done with the Ice Age Boots and they are fa-bu!  I added thrums to the lower portion as well as to the sole....I added the sole too.  I cannot wait to get these felted so I can see how cozy they are.

    Happy Square Root Day!

That's right folks, it's 03/03/09!  For those of you who remember high school algebra, the square root of 9 is 3.
Sure this is an unoffical holiday but my nerdy self thinks it's pretty cool.  See you on Pi Day!

    79% Success Rate

Well, I didn't blog every day this month but that's okay because really my goal was just to blog more often than I was.
    Mission accomplished:-)
I guess this means that I really can do something if I so desire.  Hopefully I'll be able to remind myself of this while I'm unpacking all the boxes at our NEW HOUSE!!  That's right, yesterday all of our goods arrived and today we've been unpacking, unwrapping, & trying to find a place for everything.  This evening I took a shower which wouldn't be such a big deal but the shower at our house is bad4$$!  It's got one of those rainshower heads which is nice....mmmm...rainshower.
So as you might have guessed, very little knitting has happened over the past few days.  But that's okay because I've got my stash back.  I think I might have to spread it out and roll around in it once I get it unpacked....would that be weird?  Never mind, don't answer that.
Off to bed, I've got to get up at a decent hour to get more boxes emptied.  Take care!

    Nothing to Do for Now

    And today, I'm not busy.
I have made progress on the Ice Age Boots.  The outer pieces are completed as much as I can without circs & about 1/2 of the inner pieces are done!  Although now I'm thinking I might add thrums to the lower part of the inner piece to make them super cozy.  The only problem is that I'm not sure how the felting will effect them.  I'll work that out tomorrow between packing.

    In Which I'm *Actually* Busy

My brother come into the Seattle area on friday.  I made tacos for the 6 of us (DH, KT, W, brother AP, his gf Anne & me) and I think they went over well.  It was great to see him...and his crazy beard!  My brother has a crazy mountain man beard...my little brother has a crazy mountain man beard!  Anywho, saturday KT had swimming lessons and on sunday I went to a knitting group in Redmond.  I miss my knitting pals from MN, but it was nice to met some WA knitters.  I did find a certain level of humor in that almost all of the women's significant others work for the local software company.  Today the little people & I went to the Seattle Children's Museum with AP & Anne.  I'm not sure who had more fun:  my kids or the big kids?  After that we took my brother to show him the new house and luckily the workers were there.  Tomorrow we do our final walk-through to make sure they fixed what we requested after the home inspection.
See?! I've actually been busy!  And later this week the busy-ness will continue when we move into the new house....SQUEEEEE!!!!

    Now With Pictures!!

I FINALLY got a picture of the boot pieces.  They're very anticlimactic:
just a square   I love my blue pants!
To start they are just squares & rectangles but through the magic of knitting voodoo they become a pair of boots.  Knitting is fun:)

Why Do I Do These Things?-II

I'm not even going to post the site because it has thoroughly tortured me and I won't subject you to the same.  Let's just say that I cannot figure out an ISBN number for a book using letters as the clue.  I blame a certain podcaster for posting a site with a riddle.  It's terrible & unfortunately made me too stupid to write a better blog entry.  Sorry folks:b

    Who?

I've seen Horton Hears a Who! 20 times....at least!  Apparently Finding Nemo has been replaced as KT's favorite movie because almost every day she has asked to watch it.  I've asked her why she likes it more, but she has yet to give me a straight answer.  Ah, children!  So fickle, and so easily amused.
Yes, I've worked more on the Ice Age Boots; no I haven't taken a picture:(  The sad thing is that this morning I'd actually planned to take a picture, but I saw something shiny & it was all downhill from there.

    *sigh* ;)

    What's Up?!

Nothing really to report...although I've been rocking it on the Ice Age Boots!  The only problem is that I can only go so far on them before I'm going to have to stop:(  Oh well.  I keep meaning to take a picture but have yet to get around to it.

Why Do I Do These Things?

People, I think I'm addicted to Twitter.

This is a problem....seriously!  I can't spend all my valuable knitting & spinning time on the computer.  It's terrible!  Are there any recovering Twitter addicts out there?  If so, please help me get through this with what little sanity I have left?

    Thank you.

P.S. The movie I saw was Coraline (3D).  It was excellent!  Very much an Alice in Wonderland (one of my favorites) with a more sinister feel.
