Over Compensate Much?

Today I worked at a local fair for the animal hospital.  I was a little worried when I was asked to help man the booth because I've only worked there a couple months and wasn't as familiar with all the clinic has to offer.  I decided I'd do a little homework last night and try to learn as much as a could about where the doctors got their degrees, the type of laser that's used in surgery, what AAHA is, etc, etc.....
The most common question I was asked?

"Where are you guys located?"

Luckily, I knew the answer.

An Un-Holy Trinity of Baked Goods

So Bad for You
Doesn't it look delicous?
The Girl's birthday is coming up and I'm debating what to do cake-wise.  Last year I got cupcakes from Byerly's (which were freakin' yummy!) but this year I think I'll make her a cake.  I saw this recipe on CakeSpy (featuring pie crust, chocolate chip cookies & cake) and thought I'd try it.  O.M.G!  It is really freakin' good!  I will now share with you how I made this crazy dessert:
•All of my stuff is store bought-no homemade stuff because I was lazy
-I used Pillsbury Ready Pie Crust, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough & Funfetti Cake (in case you cannot tell, I ♥ Pillsbury)
•I followed the layering process as directed with enough cake mix to make 4 cupcakes, but I probably should've made 6.
•It took me about an hour to cook this bad boy at 350° (gas oven, your mileage may vary)
All in all, I think I could've gotten away without the piecrust; I think it was a little much even for me....*collective gasp*
On another note, June 5th was DH's & my 10th anniversary.  Hard to believe that it's been 10 years since we got married, moved to Springfield, got an apartment, got a house, got a couple cars, changed jobs, moved to Minnesota, bought a house, had two kids, changed jobs again, moved to Washington and bought a house.  I guess 10 years really isn't that longSmile  Take care!

How *NOT* to Prepare Dinner

I cut my inger.
That's right, I cut the eff out of my finger......okay, it was more funny in my head.  Anyway, I was cutting an onion to put in the slow cooker with the chicken and I got over-zealous. It doesn't hurt so bad, it's just annoying.
What's said is that I'm blogging about a hurt finger and not my knitting.  It's not that I'm not knitting, I've just been slow...and of course the KADD.  I did finish the Blossom Shawl which I'll blog about (hopefully) soon.

Back "Home"

Last week the wee folk and I made a trek back to Illinois to visit the family.  My brother graduated from the University of Illinois at Springfield on the 16th with a Masters in Public Administration.  It was typical graduation except for one thing....FREAKING FIST BUMPS!!!!!!!!!  Yes, people the hysteria regarding the H1N1 strain of influenza caused the Chancellor to forego the traditional (professional) handshake to give graduates a fist bump/respect knuckles.  It was ridiculous.  If you need photographic proof go the 2009 Commencement page (bottom of the page) or my brother's twitpic.  Yeah....
At least I got a respectable picture:
Since my sanity was barely hanging in the balance after being on the plane with 2 small children, I decided to give the in-laws some quality time with their grandchildren while I was at the graduation.  Naturally they loved it!  I felt kind of bad that my IL's only got a fraction of the time that my family got, but they did get to spend time with all of us in january while my family hadn't seen us since october.  Next time we visit I'll try to make the visit more equal.
Anyway, visiting my family is pretty laid back.  There were a few things that had to be done.  We went to church on sunday (have to show off the grandkids), my brother left on tuesday (to move out to Seattle!!), visit with my grandparents, lunch in Bishop Hill, you get the idea.
That's all I got.  There's more pictures in my january-june album.  Take care!

La-zy!

Let's see, 29 days without a post.  Man I'm getting lazy!  I mean, I was already lazy but this makes me feel even lazier!  And it isn't even as if I've finished any of my WIP's as of late!  Well, I have been working on Blossom, a shawl from the now defunct Magknits and I am nearly done with it even after adding an extra set of repeats....but still!
yes, I i$ ©r4zY
What's even more sad (as if anything else could be so tragic) is that there are still boxes to be unpacked.  And yeah, I know a lot of people go years before the unpack EVERY box in their new homes, but I just hate it when I walk into KT's room and see the boxes in her closet.  What I really need to do is just bite the bullet and DO  IT!  Which of course includes getting rid of old toys she no longer plays with, clothes that no longer fit and all the stuff that she just plain doesn't need anymore.  And I know that if I just do a little each day it'll eventually get done, but I feel so overwhelmed when I think about it.  I'm pathetic...what can I say.
In other news....I got a job!  I'm working part-time at a nearby vet clinic as an assistant.  As before I'm only working saturdays, but it'll be nice to get out of the house & give DH a chance to spend some time with the kids (i.e. get a taste for what I do EVERY.SINGLE.DAY).

Knitters ADD Is Back

Aye, aye, aye....
I've been sticking to the small projects as of late.  Maybe I'm just burned out because I screwed up the Terra sweater and need to frog it.  But I finished the Ice Age Boots:

And now Deep Thoughts
And I've reevaluated 2 pairs of socks:
Mmm, meat!
Crazy, I know.  I had almost gotten to the heel on the "Joker Sock" (one on the left), tried it on & realized it was just a little too tight.  Crap!  So I ripped out the whole thing and started over.  I hate having to knit a pair of socks with 72 stitches, but I really like the way the fabric looks on size 2.25 mm needles and frankly, what's the point of making a pair of fun looking socks if you're not going to wear them.  As for the Soy Sock (on the right), I don't know why I stopped working on it, but I've picked it up again.  I changed my mind on the short-row heel and am working a heel flap instead.  I just really like the way a heel flap fits versus the short-row.  Personally I think each person has their own preference as to what fits best, for me it's a flap:)
That's all I've got for now.  Considering it's been 2 ½ weeks since I last posted, I'd say that's kinda sad.  Oh well, I'm going to get some sleep, have a good one!

Hmmm?

I have a dilemma:
As you can see my thrums have become nubbins.  I thought something like this might happen, but I didn't think they would felt so small!  They kind of look like shibori which is cool, but not what I was going for.  So now I need to decide what I'm going to do-should I cut them off or needle felt more fuzzy goodness?  I'm going to put a foam outer sole on it so it's going to be pretty fluffy as it is.  Thoughts anyone?

The Annoyance Factor is HIGH!!!

I have been without internet for 2 days.....wait let me rephrase that,
OMG TWO DAYS!!!!!!!!!
Not a big deal, but I'm surprised at how much I depend on the internet for things.  I think one thing that has helped me acclimate here in the PacNW has been the ability to pull up an interactive map...with directions even!  Or I can look up the closest grocery store, Target, coffee shop, etc.  I'm unsure if this is a good thing or a bad thing.  Probably a bad thing.
Anyway, I'm done with the Ice Age Boots, squeeeeee!  I'm felting them in the washer right now, hoping they'll turn out okay.  I guess that means I'm not totally done with them yet.  However I figure it's close enough to say done:)  Now, I'm wondering what my next "big" project will be.  Sure, I've got tons of projects on the needles already but what's one more, right?  I really should just go through the all the crap stuff I have in progress and decide either rip or finish!
I'm off to bed, take care!

Giant Forehead

Apparently I want to look like Harry Potter:
ouchie
I know it doesn't look that bad; it actually looked a lot worse a few days before.  I was looking behind KT's bed at our temp house to see if anything was left.  Her bed was right against the wall next to the window & I wasn't paying attention & I whanged my head but good!  I just kind of felt like sharing my klutziness.
In knitting knews I'm nearly done with the Ice Age Boots and they are fa-bu!  I added thrums to the lower portion as well as to the sole....I added the sole too.  I cannot wait to get these felted so I can see how cozy they are.
